What is a PM sized particle?
PM stands for particulate matter (also called particle pollution): the term for a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. Some particles, such as dust, dirt, soot, or smoke, are large or dark enough to be seen with the naked eye. Others are so small they can only be detected using an electron microscope.

How HealthWay stacks up against HEPA filtration.
HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) is a standard for air filtration set by the U.S. Government. While this is generally seen as an acceptable measurement for whether indoor air is good or bad, at HealthWay, they only saw it as a starting point. After all, HEPA filters are not 100% effective for capturing particles up to 0.3 microns – which the American Lung Association qualifies as “ultrafine particles.” HealthWay technology has four times the filter loading capacity than a typical HEPA rated filter, with an efficiency of capturing 99.99% of pollutants at 0.007 microns (40x smaller than a typical HEPA efficiency at 0.3 micron).

How is HealthWay’s DFS technology different from UV light air purifiers?
UV Light
UV light purifiers use UV-C light, also known as germicidal light. It harms cells by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, which either kills them or leaves them incapacitated. These cells have to be exposed to UV-C light for long periods of time for this to work. One of the biggest concerns with UV-C light is that some systems can produce various levels of ozone. Even small levels of ozone can cause lung irritation, chest pain shortness of breath, and coughing. In addition, UV Light systems do not capture particles so they need to be paired with a good air filter to be effective.
DFS Technology
Healthway's patented Disinfecting Filtration System (DFS) technology uses a high-energy field that enhances filtration efficiency and filter life. DFS achieves total system efficiency, meaning our air purifiers are tested to achieve greater or at 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 micron. HealthWay units have been third-party tested to uphold rigorous standards such as Intertek Zero Ozone and EN 1822.
